An extremely rare early 19th century Regency (circa 1820) period Karelian birch (or Masur birch) chest of drawers of good patina (colour) - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

This chest of drawers consists of a Karelian birch veneered top with rosewood banding and outer birch cross banding.

This leads down to the front of the chest consisting of Karelian birch and rosewood veneered stile supports to either side of the drawers, the drawers being slightly recessed.

The drawers consist of four graduated mahogany lined drawers, each of the drawer fronts veneered in Karelian birch with rosewood banding, each drawers with two brass handles (the handles are not original probably due to changes in fashion, the original would probably have been knob handles).

The sides of the chest are pine which has been 'grained' to resemble a burr wood, this method was probably used due to the cost and rarity of the Karelian birch wood at this period, the chest is supported on four finely turned feet, these also grained.

This chest of drawers is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
