19thc oak octagonal library table by T.H. Filmer & Sons

A mid/late 19th century oak octagonal library table by T.H. Filmer & Sons, Oxford St, London.

This unusual library table consists of a black tooled leather top surrounded by a crossbanded and carved oak edge.

This leads down to the drawers, having four working drawers and four dummy drawers, all carved with foliate decoration with brass drop handles and working locks and keys, one with attached metal makers plaque 'T.H. Filmer & Sons'.

The table is supported by a stepped platform base with central fluted and turned carved column with four smaller fluted, turned and carved columns leading down to scrolling and fluted  legs terminating with porcelain castors.

T.H. Filmer & Sons, a cabinet makers and upholsterer, was established by Thomas Henry Filmer in 1835 in Berners Street, London and later in Oxford Street, they produced many items including a table that was exhibited in the 1862 International Exhibition in London. 

This table is in excellent condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home, office or library etc.
