A superb quality mid 19th century mahogany serpentine chest of drawers in the 18th century style of fine patina (colour) - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

This serpentine chest of drawers consists of a curl mahogany veneered top with moulded and shaped edge.

This leads down to four graduated cock beaded drawers, the drawer fronts of finely figured curl mahogany, all with elaborately cast brass Rococo style handles and escutcheons, the drawers being oak lined.

The top drawer has a brushing slide recently re-covered with a red baize.

The chest has canted corners, these being finely inlaid with boxwood decoration consisting of floral, foliate, ribbon and harebell designs.

Below the drawers is a moulding and the chest is supported by bracket feet, the sides are slightly shaped, one side of faded mahogany, the other side less so.

A similar example of this chest of drawers can be found in the book 'Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840' by Susan E Stuart page 11, plate 533.

This chest of drawers is in excellent condition for age (other than a slight twist to the left corner to the top as can be seen in the photos), is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
