Code: LVS777

A superb quality late 17th century solid ebony chair with intricate carving from The Coromandel Coast, India - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

This chair consists of a profusely carved back rail of scrolling foliate decoration with carved mythical beasts to either side.

This leads down to the back consisting of a carved arcaded design with eight turned supports with seven finials in between, below the same design is replicated and leads down to a lower rail of carved scrolling foliate design.

The uprights each consist of a carved face to the top leading down to profusely carved foliate decoration, the reverse of the back shows the back view of the carving giving the chair a three dimensional appearance.

The chair has a cane drop-in seat with a removable piped upholstered red cushion that compliments the chair (another could be made by the purchaser depending on personal taste) .

The seat rails and friezes to the front, sides and back are all profusely carved with floral and foliate decoration leading down to four turned legs, the legs are supported by carved stretchers terminating with turned feet.

This chair is unusual as this style and age of chair tends to be found of a smaller size, this example being of larger proportions is quite rare.

This chair is of superb quality and of excellent condition for age and can go straight into a home or collection.
