A late 19th century mahogany commode in the Classical style of good patina - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

The mahogany top consists of a small inlaid fan decoration to the top leading to a large fan design that consists of eight segments with boxwood & ebony stringing. Each segment has a boxwood inlaid floral decoration (possibly stylised harebells) leading down to a small inlaid fan or scallop decoration, the outer and front edge having rosewood banding.

This leads down to the decorative mahogany frieze with inlaid decoration of harebell swags, this style of decoration being influenced by Robert Adam.

The tapering supports have an inlaid design to the top leading down to inlaid fluted decoration.

The two doors to the commode each have a central boxwood inlaid Classical urn surrounded by a double boxwood inlaid oval panel.

To the top of the oval panels is an inlaid ribbon decoration and below inlaid foliate decoration, the interior of the cupboard having one shelf.

The ends each have an inlaid oval panel with central paterae, again with ribbon and foliate inlaid designs to the top and bottom.

The commode is supported by four turned feet and the back has been replaced at a later date.

The commode is in very good condition, three of the panels do have slight shrinkage to the wood which is not uncommon in this type of construction.
