A superb Sheraton period late 18th century semi-elliptical satinwood commode of small proportions, in the manner of Mayhew & Ince, circa 1780 -ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

The top consists of a satinwood veneered top banded with Kingwood and boxwood leading down to a satinwood and boxwood edge.

The commode has a single cupboard door veneered in satinwood with Kingwood banding and green stained boxwood and boxwood stringing.

The cupboard has one shelf inside, the door has a central inlaid decoration of a foliage wreath either of laurel or mistletoe which were popular inlays of this period.

To each side of the door is a veneered stile with a rounded moulding to each side side, these have Kingwood banding with green stained boxwood and boxwood stringing with a central panel of purpleheart wood.

The outer panels are veneered in satinwood with an inlaid oval fan medallion, the panels again being banded in Kingwood with green stained boxwood and boxwood stringing.

This leads down to a Kingwood and boxwood banding, the commode is supported by four unusual and decoratively inlaid tapering legs and these terminate with spade feet.

This piece is in the typical style of the designers Mayhew & Ince who produced many commodes of a similar shape and style, using similar inlaid designs in the late 18th century.

This piece is in very good condition for age and can go straight into a home.
