Early/mid 19th century Harlequin set of ten ash & elm spindle back chairs of superb patina, possibly from Shropshire or Staffordshire area.
This Harlequin set are all of similar proportion and shape, all of the same period, all of similar construction but have some slight differences: some chairs have three spindles, some four etc but generally are all a good match.
The chairs consist of a turned top rail between two supports, some with a turned finial to the top.
There are two further turned cross rails connected by the three or four spindles to form the back of the chair.
They each consist of a hard elm seat with a shaped frieze rail at the front.
The front legs are turned & tapered, leading down to a pad foot other than two chairs that have a turned foot.
There is also a turned, front stretcher & two plain side stretchers with a plain turned stretcher to the back.
These chairs are in good condition, of sound construction and can go straight into a home.
