A 19th century mahogany card table of fine quality in the manner of William Trotter of Edinburgh - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

This table consists of a mahogany veneered top leading down to a rail with a curl mahogany recessed panel with a ball bead moulding, the top opens to reveal an original red baise.

The tri-form pedestal also has a mahogany recessed panel with a ball bead moulding which leads to a shaped tri-form base, the feet being scroll carved with pateras with gadrooned decoration at the back of the foot.

William Trotter was one of the best known cabinet makers in the early 19th century, similar tables can be found in the book by Francis Bamford, 'Furniture History Vol XIX 1983' which is a dictionary of Edinburgh Wights & Cabinet makers 1660 - 1840. This contains a lot of information about Trotter & his business and also Plates 72A & 72B detail bases very much like this one.

It is hard to definately attribute this to Trotter as there is no makers mark, however, he did not usually mark his pieces, which was not unusual in this period.

Provenance - from Seggieden House, Perth, Scotland.
