Early 20thc walnut cabriole leg stool

SOLD

Code:

An early 20thc walnut cabriole leg stool with a drop in seat.

This stool has a quadrant retaining moulding at the top.
The shaped seat rails are veneered with straight grain walnut onto walnut.
The front & back rails both have a central carved scroll scallop shell motif.
These rails are supported by four finely carved cabriole legs with a carved scallop shell decoration on the knees with c-scroll brackets.
The legs terminate with ball & claw feet.

This piece has the patina (colour) of a period walnut piece of furniture of about 1710 & this, therefore makes it a good example of its type. It is in sound & stable order.

The seat has not been re-upholstered as due to the style, it would be an easy job to change this to a material suitable to the purchaser.

This piece takes influences from both Queen Anne & George II, the ball & claw feet being from the latter & making it an elegant piece.

Items such as this were made by very fine cabinet makers of their day such as Frederick Tibbenham of Ipswich in Suffolk in the late 19thc/early 20thc.
