Dimensions:

W: 91.5cm (36")H: 87.5cm (34.4")D: 35.5cm (14")

An Edwardian G & J Lines 'Sportiboy' carved wooden rocking horse, possibly 'Bracken', of small proportions with a distressed paint finish.

This carved horse has original paintwork in brown & white with re-touching in places.
It has some of the original tack, original saddle, remnants of the original tail but the mane is missing.
The small Sportiboys by G & J Lines did not usually have separately carved teeth - the mouth is usually a cut-out section from the nose area, as seen here.
This also has the typical Lines 'bowler hats' or caps put over the ends of the swing metalwork.
G & J Lines was developed by George & Joseph Lines in about 1876 & they became one of the largest toy makers in Britain at the time.
The Lines family were important makers & produced rocking horses for almost 100 years, making excellent pieces & often unique designs.
I personally like the look of this piece in the condition at present, but this could be restored by a specialist restorer.
This piece would look effective on an oak dresser base as a decorative piece.
