SOLD

Code: 331

Dimensions:

W: 12cm (4.7")H: 15cm (5.9")D: 20cm (7.9")

A late 19thc Colonial (possibly Indian or Thai) smokers companion created from a panther skull with Asian silver mounts.

This highly decorative piece has intricate engraved mounts of Asian dancers on the back jaw area on each side.
There is a small piece of silver mount missing on the left side of the skull - can be seen on Photo 2 but if displayed viewing the right side this would not be noticed.
There are silver storage compartments for smoking accessories such as matches, cigarettes etc and the mouth area could be used as an ashtray.
There is also a further decorative engraved silver mount on the rear of the top of the skull.
This is an unusual piece and was created in a period when smoking and hunting were accepted pursuits.
