A late 19thc fine English quality marquetry mirror with ebony and ivory decoration with original glass plate.

This piece has a rectangular original plate with bevelled edge, within a fine quality marquetry frame, inlaid with naturalistic designs of a Green man, flowers, foliage and bird decoration.

This frame has an inner and outer border in ebony and ivory in the style of a barbers pole.

The original mirror plate is in generally good condition but does have some foxing, as seen on photo 2.

However the mirror can still be used or simply hung as a decorative piece.

The mirror plate has a date on the reverse of 1895.

The Green man image is a symbol of rebirth or renaissance, therefore representing the cycle of nature and growth.

This image had a revival in the 19thc and was popular in the Gothic revival and Art & Crafts periods, the latter having many symbols of nature in its' designs.

Please note that this mirror plate could be replaced with a new plate, if requested, at a small additional cost.

This mirror is in very good condition and the frame in excellent condition and can go straight into a home.
