Regency gilt & painted burr maple console
A rare English Regency gilt & painted burr maple console table with marble top - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:
The top consists of a rectangular cream veined marble top which is supported by the gilt, painted and burr maple base.
The base has a carved, painted and gilded arcaded frieze with leaf and berry decoration with a gilt moulding below.
This leads down to the superbly carved and sophisticated front scrolling supports with stylised gilded leaf decoration to the top with large scroll to the back with carved harebell and leaf design.
This leads down to a moulded and gilded collar with carved acanthus below terminating with a sophisticated scrolling acanthus foot.
The legs to the back consist of a recessed panel of burr maple veneer surrounded by a gilded moulding with a painted frame.
The base is veneered in burr maple with a gilded & moulded edge, the front edge being of inverted form supported on a veneered burr maple plinth.
This table is a super example from the height of the Regency period and there is no doubt that it was made for an important property, tables such as this seldom come on to the open market.
The table is in very good original condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
