A mid 19th century (circa 1860) Anglo Indian carved padouk centre table of fine patina, probably from the Bombay region - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

This table consists of a circular padouk top with carved grape and vine leaf decoration with an egg and dart carved edge leading down to a carved and pierced frieze of grapes and vine leaves.

We have also shown the table top in the tilted position - this is for photographic purposes only as due to the depth of the frieze although the top does have a tilting mechanism it was not originally made to be secured in the tilted position.

The top is supported on profusely carved and pierced tri-form base consisting of a turned and carved foliate central column with carved grape and vine leaf decoration with three carved lions below.

This leads down to a tri-form plinth base with scrolling foliate decoration to each corner and carved grape and vine leaf design to the frieze and terminating with three turned feet.

This style of leaf carving is often found on pieces of furniture from the Bombay region of India dating to around 1850-1860, similar types of 'leafy vine' carving can be found in the book 'Furniture From British India And Ceylon' by Amin Jaffer, page 339-344 etc.

This table is in very good original condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
