An excellent quality French 19th century Naploeon III boulle marquetry freestanding jardiniere table - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:
This jardiniere consists of a rectangular lid profusely decorated with intricate foliate brass inlay on red tortoiseshell with ormolu handles and surrounded by a pierced ormolu gallery with a later removable metal liner ideal for floral displays or as a wine or champagne cooler.
The jardiniere has a moulded edge to the top with intricate foliate brass inlaid decoration on tortoiseshell with ormolu border and mounts leading down to the shaped sides also with profuse inlaid boulle decoration and decorative ormolu border.
The four cabriole legs consist of decorative ormolu mounts to the top with intricate inlaid foliate boulle decoration terminating with ormolu sabots to the feet.
This jardiniere is in very good condition for age with minor losses of tortoiseshell which is to be expected (with evidence of some old restoration), it is of stable construction and can go straight into a home, it is a versatile piece as can be displayed with either the lid on or off.
