An extremely rare and fine quality late 18th century Sheraton period mahogany side server/side table of bow form and of superb patina (colour) - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:
This superb side server consists of a superbly figured mahogany veneered top with mahogany cross banding to the edge.
This leads down to the two shaped drawers each consisting of a recessed panel with ebony line decoration, each having two brass handles (replaced at some time but in keeping with the period) and an escutcheon.
One drawer is longer as the central panel is integrated into this drawer, the central panel being a recessed circle with ebony moulding surrounded by fiddle back mahogany veneer with boxwood and mahogany stringing.
The shaped sides also have the recessed design with ebony line decoration, below the drawers and side panels is a banding/stringing consisting of satinwood, mahogany, ebony and boxwood.
The legs have a recessed panel leading down to shaped brackets with a mahogany and boxwood moulding with an inlaid diamond decoration below, the tapered legs are cross banded with boxwood stringing and terminate with four spade feet.
Side servers of this period and style are extremely rare as most tend to be in the Robert Adam style rather than the Sheraton style.
This piece is in excellent condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
