A superb quality matched pair of mid 17th century (circa 1650) solid ebony chairs with intricate carving from The Coromandel Coast, India - the South Indian Coromandel Coast was the centre of production of carved ebony furniture during 1650-1660 - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

These chairs consist of a profusely carved top rail of low relief foliate and floral decoration with carved and turned finials to the top of the carved uprights.

This leads down to pierced scrolling decoration with twist-turned baluster columns below, one chair with seven, the other eight with lower low relief foliate and floral carved back rail with pierced scrolling decoration below.

The cane seats both in good condition, the seat rails profusely carved with low relief foliate and floral carving with pierced scroll carving below.

The chairs are supported on twist-turned legs leading down to low relief carved block feet all joined with twist-turned stretchers.

This near pair of chairs are in very good condition for age, are of stable construction and can go straight into a home or collection.
