A very fine pair of oval late 19thc marquetry table en chiffoniere with three drawers.
The oval tops have a gilt brass gallery surrounding the fine marquetry theatrical scene consisting of kingwood banding & an ebony and boxwood design.
The design on the tops have a central pelmet with drapery hanging down, with swags of flowers either side.
There are two love birds to the centre resting on two lit torches.
Underneath is a Viking ship with flags & a central shield inlaid with a grotesque mask.
The sides & back panel of each table are inlaid with flower designs of various woods. These panels have a border of an ebony & boxwood banding.
The three drawers have an outer Kingwood banding & then an inner ebony & boxwood banding with a flower marquetry design either side of the decorative ormolu escutcheons .
Either side of the drawers is an ebony & boxwood line design which gives the effect of fluting.
This leads down to cabriole legs & at the base of the legs are gilt metal feet.
Towards the base is a kidney shaped shelf with a gilt brass gallery, with an inlaid panel depicting an ink well, book & quill, possibly symbolising either law or scholarly work.
