Finely carved walnut figure of lion

A fine quality walnut carving of a lion, depicting the Lion of Luzern.

This is based on the stone lion monument in Luzern that is in memory of the Swiss Guard who fell in 1792 whilst protecting the French Royal Family in Paris.

The inscription at the base of this figure says 'SWISS LOYALTY AND BRAVERY' & this again is taken from the original.

This small carving is of very fine quality.

On the back there are carved initials of EAW 1906.
