Chinoiserie lacquered bureau bookcase
A highly decorative early 20th century Chinoiserie lacquered double dome bureau bookcase on a green background of good quality in the 18th century manner.
The top has three turned gilt wood finials on the double dome front and also has dome shaped ends.
The doors, of arched form, are decorated both to the exterior and interior with various lacquered designs of typical Chinese scenes and you will notice that the interior section is a slightly brighter tone of green.
The bookcase consists of three shelves and nine pigeon holes which sit above 4 small drawers. There are also two candle holders below these drawers, these have been incorporated purely for decorative purposes as candle holders were only used on mirrored doors to reflect the light.
This leads down to a highly decorative bureau section, the interior being well fitted with various compartments including 6 drawers, a central door decorated with a lacquered Mandarin man design as well as two secret bookend sections.
The inside of the fall is decorated with a finely painted lacquered design of cranes amongst bamboo and the exterior of the fall is also decorated with cranes, bamboo and foliage designs.
There are five drawers with brass Chinese influenced design handles, the drawers are pine lined and again decorated with lacquered designs and lead down to bracket feet.
The side panels are also nicely painted with Chinoiserie gilt designs including dragons and landscape scenes.
This piece is in good condition, is structurally sound and can go straight into a home.
