A fine quality late 19th century Black Forest linden wood carving of a lion, depicting the Lion of Luzern.
This carving is based on the stone lion monument in Luzern that is in memory of the Swiss Guard who fell in 1792 whilst protecting the French Royal Family in Paris.
The inscription at the base of this figure translates as 'SWISS LOYALTY AND BRAVERY' & this again is taken from the original.
This small carving is of superb quality and is mounted on a linden wood chamfered plinth.
On the back there are carved initials of FB.
