A mid-late 19thc Chinese Qing dynasty inlaid hongmu (black wood) chair with a circular dreamstone in the backrest.
The dreamstone is inset into a hongmu wooden frame & is inlaid with various symbols in mother-of-pearl.
This chair has profuse mother-of-pearl inlaid designs of foliage & flowers in the back, arms, base & legs.
There is a central inlaid mother-of-pearl design at the top of the backrest called 'shou' which symbolises long life.
Within the backrest design there are carved images of bats, a Chinese symbol for great happiness & good fortune.
The seat is in marble, inset into a hongmu wood
frame, this has an old repair seen in photograph 5.
This chair is of sound construction & can go staright into a home.
