A finely carved mid 19thc solid ebony Ceylonese workbox with profuse acanthus leaf decoration, possibly from the Galle district.
The interior consists of a tray with eleven compartments, the lids a mix of ivory & exotic wood inlay, some with red & black ink & silver wire inlaid chevron decorated borders. The inside of the lid is a silver wire design of an elephant in ivory & ebony.
