A mid 19thc Ceylonese reeded ebony writing slope with a bone escutcheon, possibly from the Galle district.

The interior consists of a long pen tray section with a hinged lid, inlaid with an engraved ivory design. Inside this are various compartments for pens etc & two inkwell compartments, unfortunately the inkwells are missing.

Just below this is a circular ruler.

Below this is a shaped & inlaid frieze & underneath this is a removable ebony & boxwood strung cover which uncovers three secret drawers.

The main section consists of a folding writing slope with storage space below this. This is covered in black leather with a gold line decoration.

When closed this is a reeded ebony box.
