Decorative malachite sculpted & polished bowl

A decorative malachite sculpted & polished bowl. This bowl has a polished finish to the top & then natural edges to the side.

This malachite bowl is a rich green colour with bands of various tones of light & dark green.

The stone malachite is sourced in various countries including Africa, Mexico & Australia & in the 19thc it was found predominently in the Urals region of Russia.

The name is derived from the Greek word 'molochitus', meaning mallow-green stone. The stone resembles the leaves of the mallow plant.

It is a form of copper ore which is an opaque semi-precious stone.

This is a very decorative piece that would fit into any interior.

It is quite hard to date but I would say it is from the 1960's. It has no damage or chips.
