An exceptionally rare superb quality late 18th/early 19th century mahogany cutlery urn with brass line inlay of extremely large proportion, probably English or Russian - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:
This piece consists of a turned gilt brass ball finial leading down to a mahogany and brass line inlaid dome cover.
The main section has a rounded tapering shape, again consisting of mahogany with brass line inlay leading down to a brass diamond shaped escutcheon with brass plaque below with an engraved armorial of a griffin holding an axe.
To the sides of the cutlery urn are two brass ring and lion mask handles, the urn being supported by a mahogany and brass line shaped stem on a square platform base terminating with four brass ball feet.
The interior is stepped to hold a cutlery set.
This cutlery urn is in excellent condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
