An exceptional early 19th century (circa 1835) Gothic revival oak library armchair of superior design, generous proportions and wonderful original patina finished in a deep red faux leather - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

This superb library armchair is exceptional in all aspects: design, proportions, choice of timber, condition, original patina, comfort…a very good example of an English library armchair.

The armchair consists of a shaped top rail with central recessed carved quatrefoil with carved recessed panels to either side.

This leads down to superbly shaped arms with upholstered armrests, the finely carved foliate arm supports with open Gothic arched panels and pierced design, the back, seat and rear upholstered in a deep red faux leather.

This leads down to a shaped, moulded and recessed seat rail with recessed quatrefoil decoration to the top and sides of front legs, the side rails also moulded and recessed.

The armchair is supported by an unusual design of tapering leg to the front consisting of recessed arched panels with turnings above and below, the back legs of shapely outswept design all supported on original brass castors.

This armchair is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home - the faux leather upholstery is not original but has been on the chair for a number of years, the chair could of course be recovered in a fabric or leather of choice.
