A rare Continental early 17th century (circa 1600) walnut panel depicting ‘The Last Supper’ of super colour, possibly Italian, originally a door from a piece of furniture, attributed to Jan Sadeler - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

This wonderful panel consists of a moulded walnut frame of superb colour, this surrounding a marquetry panel depicting the twelve Disciples with Jesus Christ to the centre gathered around a table. 

The figures inlaid with various woods with finely engraved and expressive ivory faces and hands, Jesus with a mother of pearl halo.

The panel has been based on the painting of 'The Last Supper' by Pieter de Witte painted in the late 16th century.

This panel has similarities to the work of the Sadeler family, famous Flemish engravers who worked in various countries in Europe including Germany and Italy for a hundred years from the 1560’s. 
  
A paper label to the reverse of the panel with:

'attributed to Jan Sadeler b1550 d1600
painting by Pieter de Witte (Candido)' etc.

This panel is in very good condition for age and can go straight into a home, with hanging ring to reverse.
