A superb pair of French late 19th century (circa 1890) Grand Tour busts of Antinous as Dionysus and Ariadne, after the original pairing by Leone Clerici in Rome 1882 - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

Dionysus the Greek God of wine (or Bacchus the Roman God of wine) is depicted with vine leaves in his hair with his wife Ariadne, her hair in Classical style.

The Antinous bust based on the Lansdown Antinous marble found at Hadrian’s Villa, Tivoli, Rome in 1769, now in the Capitoline Museum in Rome, the Ariadne bust after a figure by Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844).

This pair of busts are in excellent condition for age and can go straight into a home or collection.
