An extremely rare French early 16th century (circa 1500) fruitwood (cherry) coffer of superb patina - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:

This coffer consists of a solid plank top with moulded edge with evidence of old restoration, the top opening to reveal steel hinges, the interior having a later candle box and open storage space.

This leading down to an unusual brass lock plate with two engraved fleur de lis (this ancient symbol having long been associated with France and the French Royalty and Heraldry) with original key and steel lock.

This leads down to wonderfully carved tracery panels both to the front and sides typical of the carved tracery work found in late 15th and early 16th century work with a moulding below  and supported on stile feet.

This coffer is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
