18thc mahogany Pembroke table

18thc mahogany Pembroke table

SOLD

An unusual example of an 18thc mahogany Pembroke table.

The top is figured mahogany with two leaves.

The table consists of a mahogany drawer, the linings being pine on the base & oak on the sides.
It has a swan neck handle & the backplates are oval with a ball bead decoration.

Under the drawer is a shaped rail which leads to the turned pad foot legs.

These are supported by a turned stretcher which has been added at a later date possibly early 20thc but it has been on the piece for a considerable number of years.

This table is an unusual & rare model due to the fact that Thomas Sheraton was famous for the designing the Pembroke table, but this table is from a much earlier period.

Also, there is a very unusual mechanism to support the leaves. Most tables of these would have butterfly effect supports but this has pull out supports, like loopers (similar to the mechanism supporting a bureau fall)
